The National Indigenous Science Education Communities Program (NISEP) is a university based program, run collaboratively by Macquarie University staff, high school staff, Aboriginal communities and a growing number of partner organisations and universities. NISEP grew out of Macquarie University's Indigenous Science Education Program (ISEP), which was founded in 2005.
The main aim of NISEP is to provide secondary students, especially Indigenous students, with the motivation and skills to complete their high school studies and to open pathways to tertiary education in the Sciences.
The NISEP program builds skills such as emotional resilience, confidence and leadership in students by involving them as peer demonstrators at an interactive science show in their school; supported by training, mentoring and relationship building by staff and students from partnered universities.
