The Jordan River Learning Federation originated from a community based planning group called the Bridgewater and Southern Midlands Education Renewal Taskforce (BASMERT) after a fire destroyed Bridgwater High School on 23 October 2007.

Construction of the new Senior School was completed in 2011.
